The Finnish Startup Community is strengthening its public affairs and communications as Päivi Tiittanen has joined the organisation as Manager of Public Affairs and Communications. Tiittanen’s role is to make issues critical to the startup ecosystem clear and accessible in policymaking and public debate, to monitor political and regulatory developments, and to connect research-based insights with timely communications and advocacy work.

Tiittanen brings more than 20 years of experience in communications, public affairs, and media relations. She has worked in several national organisations and in politically driven environments, where she has led advocacy communications, current affairs communications, and stakeholder engagement in demanding and rapidly changing contexts.

“The Finnish startup ecosystem is a key driver of economic renewal and growth across the country. Startups create new jobs, accelerate innovation, and strengthen Finland’s international competitiveness. The Finnish Startup Community brings together perspectives from business, politics, and societal renewal. The operating environment for growth companies is increasingly shaped by political decisions, regulation, and economic policy. It is essential that the startup perspective is clearly represented in these discussions”, Tiittanen says.

The role of startups in Finland’s economic growth, employment, and capacity for renewal has increased, while the operating environment has become more challenging. Predictability in decision-making, access to funding, and international competitiveness are key issues where effective public affairs and communications play a significant role.

“Tiittanen’s extensive experience in public affairs and working with the media brings exactly the expertise we need at this moment. The startup ecosystem is evolving rapidly, and successful advocacy requires both responsiveness and a strong long-term strategic perspective”, says Riikka Pakarinen, CEO of the Finnish Startup Community.

The Finnish Startup Community represents and brings together Finland’s startup and growth company ecosystem and works to promote their operating conditions, growth, and internationalisation.
